1984 firebird high idle at neutral and park?

Hey Guys got my new bird up and running today but the idle is staying consistently at 1800 rpm in idle? Any ideas where to look first. The engine is all original with the comp controlled quadrajet and electronic distributor. Checked all the vacuum so far nothing there? Will probably go back through that again just to make sure?

Thanks
Sean Wolff

Re: 1984 firebird high idle at neutral and park?

Is the idle set too high? I guess I havn't really messed with the computer controlled q-jets. I know the non-computer ones, had a idle adjustment screw on the throttle linkage. My buddy had one on his 87, and it gave him so many head aches. He ended up ditching it, and replacing it with an eddie 600 carb and vacume HEI dist. Constant high idle could also be a vacume leak. Did you spray come carb cleaner around the vacume lines, and the base of the carb, to see if the idle changed?

Will try the carb spray trick on the vacuum lines and carb base and see. Might be the carb base gasket this car has been sitting up a long time 10 years in a school shop.

ok checked all the vacuum lines only one on the carb had to be replaced, base gasket is nice and sealed no leaks there. Did however find that the computer temp sensor wiring is roasted back almost and inch on both leads.

Trying to keep this car as original as possible since it runs so good lol even with the comp quad on it took it for a spin around the block last night and other than the rpm and a little left over bad gas in the tank runs like a champ!
Thanks
