To Vent Or Not To Vent
Would appreciate some opinions from some of the more experienced members on this one.
Cowl induction hood is going on the car in a week, and currently the cowl vents are glassed shut. I am trying to decide whether or not to open them up. I have a TPI motor, so I know that I will see ZERO benefit in the terms of air induction from this, but so far what I've gathered is the following:
PRO's
- Looks authentic
- Cooler engine bay temps
- Possibly faster windshield defrosting during the colder months (Drunken speculation)
- That's about it (
)
CON's
- Some rain water could enter through the cowl vents (This car is a daily driver)
- Engine bay can become pressurized at higher speeds leading to possible understeer
- Engine bay can become dustier/dirtier faster due to not being used with sealed cowl induction (Drunken speculation)
The biggest qualm I have with not opening up the vents is it kind of makes me feel like I'm in the same category as all the ***** kids who advertise parts that their cars don't even have. Just kinda seems like missing half the battle if you install a non functional cowl hood.

PRO's
- Looks authentic Does look cool.
- Cooler engine bay temps Maybe. Can't hurt, that is for sure.
- Possibly faster windshield defrosting during the colder months (Drunken speculation)No.
CON's
- Some rain water could enter through the cowl vents (This car is a daily driver) Won't matter on a TPI engine.
- Engine bay can become pressurized at higher speeds leading to possible understeerSpeculation but even if true, at what speed? 150+? Not a meaningful issue
- Engine bay can become dustier/dirtier faster due to not being used with sealed cowl induction (Drunken speculation)Again, non-issue. Compared w/the airflow through/around engine area from radiator, and open under-car area...the dust entering through the cowl is negligable...nothing.

Do what makes you "Feel good" about your car. The thoughs that you have both for pros and for cons are really meaningless; they won't affect the car positively or negatively in any way that matters. It seems to me like open is what you'd prefer. I would too, if it were my car.
