Solution to Howling Fuel Pump

Add me to the list of people who dumped the factory pump and switched over to a Bosch 69218. After installing the Bosch this week, I drove around town in 105 degree temperatures with less than half a tank of gas and didn't hear a thing from it. This truly is the solution to the howling/whistling fuel pump. I found the information through posts here on this forum, so thank you, guys, for the posts.

Re: Solution to Howling Fuel Pump

I have a brand new oem fuel pump, sending unit and tank and i can still hear the howl. It gets quiter with more gas in it (of course) but even when full its still slightly noticeable. Literally, the parts are about 4 months old, and i could hear it after about a week or so iirc. If i had heard about the bosh i would have gotten it. Oh well

Re: Solution to Howling Fuel Pump

I had a new Delco replacement pump and it did the same thing. I'm not sure why nothing was done by GM to remedy the problem since so many people have experienced this. Up until a few weeks ago, I thought the noise was the heated fuel fumes escaping from the tank. It was the best $64 I spent in a long time. Accessing the tank by cutting into the sheet metal on the inside behind the rear seats saved a lot of time and work--Now it only takes 20 minutes to change a fuel pump.

Re: Solution to Howling Fuel Pump

Your pump was only $64?? Is it a performance pump or just an oem replacement? I paid well over $100 for mine, but dont remember exactly how much.

It would have made it easier, but my tank was leaking so i didnt want to be cutting around a leaking tank. Besides, i wasnt to thrilled about the idea of cutting up the car, I know it'd make it alot easier but i just felt funny about doing it, something was telling me not to (besides the leaky tank of course lol)
