is this right

i did a cam swap in my 88 camaro 305 it was a roller cam but i went with a hydralic flat tappet it is a lunati bare bones cam i dont know the part number but i had a question about the cam retainer plate so i called lunati and they said i dont have to have one they said the way some of the lobes on the cam are angled to the front and some to the back so once the lifters get in and the rockers tight the cam wont have any play in it or try to walk its self out i was wondering if anybody has ever heard of this and is it true or do i need a retainer plate any help will be appreciated thanks for looking

Re: is this right

Yes it is true; that's how cams were, for all those decades before the factory added the retainer plate for their weird roller setup.

No you do not need the retainer plate if you're downgrading your motor to the older system.
