wiper motor gear stripped

just wanted to share my frustration that the plastic gear inside my wiper motor has stripped.

so annoyed and ticked that they don't make a rebuilt kit, i only need 1 plastic gear!!!!!! its the smaller one that goes on the bolt.

but noooooo, unlike the firebird pop-up headlight rebuild kits, i had to buy a whole new motor setup from auto zone.

why aren't there any rebuild kits!!!!!

Re: wiper motor gear stripped

You might get one cheaper at the wrecking yard to take the gear off of.

Re: wiper motor gear stripped

Couldn't you have just bought a junkyard one for half the price? And things break after 25 years of sun, rain, operation. I understand your frustration, but look for alternatives before going out and buying new.

EDIT, edward beat me to it

Re: wiper motor gear stripped

i don't have time to travel to the junk yard. the ones that do have our kind of cars are little bit of a drive and i work nights so today is shot.

when i do go to the yard ill get spares.

its not really the money thats bugging me guys its just so dumb that they offer repair kits for the popup headlights motors and not the wiper motor.

Re: wiper motor gear stripped

OK well good luck with that hopefully the right one comes for you. If it was me ordering I can tell you right now it would be the wrong one. Maybe and I do mean maybe the second one would be right, 50/50 chance LOL.

Sorry re-read my post, Came off kinda jerky, I meant it in a more of a helping way... But if you get a spare, ebay has some for like $25 used, you gotta look but they are there(not a rebuild kit but the whole assembly). Hope it all comes in good!

Re: wiper motor gear stripped

ok error on my part, i ordered the wrong part over the phone, i know absolutely jack about the wiper motors.

whne they asked if it was a 2 or 3 terminal motor i thought they were walking about the plug on the side.

wasnt until i pick up the part and take out the old one i realize its the bottom plug taht has 2 or 3 terminals. and mine is 2!

so the 2 terminal part will be in tomorrow morning.

i also own a 87 camaro, i check its wiper gears so i dont run into more problems with that car and the grease inside is still there and moist and fresh and gears are mint. but somehow my 86 trans am got shitty grease that dried up and chewed up the gears.

go figure.

Re: wiper motor gear stripped

Alright guys, success!

after 3 trips to autozone i replaced the wiper motor.

HERE'S A TIP FOR ANYONE WHO HAS TO DO THIS....

TAKE ALL BUSHINGS, WIRE CONNECTORS, GASKETS ETC... KEEP ALL ACCESSORIES!!!

the new motors come naked.

1st trip was to pick up a 3 terminal motor.

2nd trip was bring back that one and buy a 2 terminal motor.

3rd trip was because i realized after the fact taht my delay wasn't working because the 2 bent metal connectors from the motor to the delay cap "ARE NOT INCLUDED"!!!!

so i was able to grab my core charge motor at the store and snag those 2 little connectors off and drive back home and put everything back together again

Re: wiper motor gear stripped

Wow you did better than I could. What would you have to do if they already sent your motor back.

Re: wiper motor gear stripped

at first i would of fabircated the parts, not too complicated. but once i had time to go to the junk yard i would of snatched some real ones and other stuff while i was there.

i still plan to do this but money goes out the window just when i think i have some to spend at the junk yard. or another project takes up my time off.
