that's pretty vague info is it a carb now? tbi? tpi? the base timing will still need to set they way it always will by either unplugging the est plug sticking out of the harness on pass side by heater/AC box or by disconnecting the vacuum advance on the dizzy

Loosen the bolt. Rotate the dist until it's where the engine runs the best. Tighten the bolt.
Not too much different from any other motor combo with a distributor, really.

this is my first engine i built just the timeing just didnt seem write i got num 1 up droped distribitor in had rotor button pointing on num 1 ajusted the valves it cranked but when i put thew timeing light on it the timeing plate on the hermonic balencer and it showed to be above the plate where it says befor and was wondering was this gonn be alwrite or would it run hot the motor is carberated any advice would be greatly apreaciated

The engine will know when the timing is right.
If it RUNS good, it IS good.
The engine does not whup out its "light", examine the "mark", and make some kind of decision accordingly. All it cares about, is the point during the cycle that the spark occurs; there are SO MANY forms of mechanical misalignment that can affect the "mark", that it is usually unreliable, unless you ALREADY CHECKED its accuracy during assembly.
Give the engine what it wants, and if it runs good, don't worry about the "mark" especially if it seems weird, except to note where it is so that if somebody moves it, you can put it back.
