i have a 86 iroc with the stock 305 tpi set up and the last 2days ive been driving it the car will start fine from a cold start but once it gets hot like after i get to work or drive it a few miles and i shut it off it wont start it kinda cranks over alittle then stops and it will do that until the car cools down alittle i normaly have to wait 20min or so before it will fire again, i was thinking the starter for sure but what i do understand is why it does it after everything is warmed up and not when its cold. i really need this figured out if its the starter because im droping a 383 in it in a few weeks and dont wanna but a junky starter on it.

Heats a killer...If there are no other issues with the engine, it sounds like a weak starter to me. If no other issues, do a load test on the battery but plan on putting in a new starter.

 

maybe it is the heat my fan quit working and its been in the 90s the past few days.. dont really wanna buy a new starter and run it on this motor for a few weeks then take it off again

 

So fix your fan so the engine doesn't get so hot then

 

GM sells a brown starter solenoid, it's a high heat model, has better/thicker wiring. Cheap fix!
