Re: Helloo.
You have several choices for a sbc 350;
i.e.
L-48, L-65, LM1, ZQ3, L-46, LT-1, LT1, L82, L81, L83, L98, L05, L31.
These are all of the different 350 setups offered from GM over the years (if I remember correctly, I might have forgotten one or two). Also, IIRC, the LS engine (although offered in a 5.7L) was not an actual 350.
But anyway, back on topic, the reason why I am asking some of these questions is kind of simple; your newer generation 350 blocks should have more machining for sensors and things of that nature for running a newer generation fuel injection system. Your older gen1 blocks would have less machining for sensors due to either running carb'd or earlier gen fuel injection systems.
So obviously, you're not really going to be able to take a L-48 assembly from the 60s and dump the top end and ecm from the LT1 very efficiently and without pulling your hair out (if you are even able to do it at all).
Let us know what kind of ball park that you would like to be in and we can go from there. Also, racing or daily driver? You want to try and keep it original or modify the style of your 83?

Re: Helloo.
California has some strict emissions laws, you should check on them.
That being said, it would probably be easier to go fuel injected.
For a 2 grand budget, i'd suggest going to vortec motor, found in 1996- (I think) 1999 GM trucks and big suv's.
Are you going to be doing the swap yourself? Thats a tight budget to pay for labor with also.
AND before you go swapping out your engine, what do you have now? There is ALOT you can do to whatever you have now, be it v6 or v8 and have it make more power.

Re: Helloo.
Do a search and you will see lots of others who have done this swap, so you can decide exactly how you want to go.
