putting a carb on 305

basic question,
i have been around the web and forums looking to see what carb i should put on my 85 trans am, its a 305 with all the bull cut off it. i also put a 350 cam in place of the stock one. I took the TPI off obviously and i picked up a 650cfm 4brl double pump holly.
i am basicly just trying to see if this is going to be too big for my engine, i bought the carb brand new from R&D Race shop.

so is this carb going to be to big for my motor or is it going to be too much for the car? because once the fuel hits it it's mine.

thanks
mitchell

Re: putting a carb on 305

I had a 305 in an 82 z28 that was modded some. I went with the 570 cfm Holley Street Avenger carb and a Holley Street Dominator intake. It was a great combination. Don't know how well you're going to like that double pumper for driving day to day.

Re: putting a carb on 305

A 650 is a great size for a 305 - you won't have any problems with it.

Now a double pumper on the other hand.....

Welcome to TGO! Not sure I know what you mean "All the Bull cut off", unless you mean electronics and emissions.

The car would run alot better with the electronics hooked up and the proper CC Qjet, however, as long as you set it up right, a 650 holley will run just fine. Just make sure the distributor is a vacuum advance distributor and not still the electronic one.
