oil pressure headache

Hello gentlemen. I need some guidance on this issue-I wanted to see if my valves needed adjusting due to a VERY NOTICEABLE valve tap. Turns out valves were ok I started the engine with the drivers side valve cover off. Oil wasn't splashing out nearly as much as it should which I believe is causing valve tap . I checked my oil level and was only like 1/3 quart low. Problem is my oil pressure gauge is not working its stuck at 0. I tried starting the car and unplugging the sending unit (which is slathered in oil) and no change. So u guys think my oil pressure gauge is bad? I believe my 1st priority is to get the gauge workin in order to work my way up to fixing the valve tap issue right?

Valve tap could be you need to adjust the rockers, as far as the oil gauge, fix that right away. Sometimes the oil will not spurt out of the rods if the rockers are too loose. to adjust the valves:
Loosen one rocker at a time until you hear it making a clacking noise.
start tightening it until it goes away and then one half turn after that.
Bear in mind that is only a ballpark way to do it but you should see a little more oil pop out after it is adjusted properly. Keep us posted.

Hummm. 0 oil pressure on the gauge and valve lash/rocker noise. Kind of a chicken or egg question isn't it. Yeah, get a mechanical oil gauge temporary plugged into the oil sending port and see what oil pressure you have or not. I didn't on purpose open the topic of details of how many miles are on this or not. Loss of oil pressure can happen at anytime.

I had the same issue with one of my cars and after I got the valve lash correct the oil started flowing like crazy (thank god I made my own windowed valve covers) but it will chicken the egg if the oil pressure unit isn't working
