Example, it takes 3 to 3.5 turns to go from full left to full right. Faster ratio (2.5) makes the car feel more "sporty".
Which should you get? Dunno.

Number of turns lock to lock. Depends. The 2.5 turn box is what people refer to as "close ratio steering". You turn the wheel a little, your wheels turn a lot, like a go kart. The other boxes are slower ratio, meaning you have to sit there and crank the wheel around quite a bit to turn the wheels the same amount as the close ratio box, like a truck. If the box is still in the car, wrap a piece of masking tape around a spot on the steering wheel and crank it all the way one direction. Crank it the other way slowly and count how many times the tape goes around. If it goes around 3 and a half turns it's the 3.5 lock to lock box.
Make sure that you double check when you get the new box, turn the input shaft on both boxes to compare and make sure they are indeed the same ratio. Remanufacturing companies do tend to slip every now and then and parts stores are about as reliable as meteorologists.
