305 tbi, help

i have a 92 camaro rs... it has headers with 2.5" collectors (kinda small dont ya think?) a mallory coil and distributor, edelbrock performer intake, and i think it has a cam in it, i can rev it past 7xxxrpm with power to the rear wheels... i cant get the timing correct on it, ive tried the timing at 0 and have gone all the way to advancing it by 9 degrees and cant seem to find the correct timing, does the aftermarket parts effect this any?... any help would be appriciated, also ive herd of a lt1 112lsa cam swap and it being compatable with the stock computer along with a 4.3 blazer stall converter.. what are your guys' thoughts or ideas?? any help would be greatly appriciated

Is this motor still fuel injected or has it been converted over to a carb setup? Sounds like too many mods for it to still be running on the factory TBI setup (or, I should say, running WELL on the factory TBI setup).

It's still tbi, do you think the engine isn't getting enough fuel? I'm really not sure about the cam, but I don't know of any 305's that can pull as hard as this one through 7 grand...

Yeah..... no, the TBI motor definitely won't spin that high. I would suspect a tach that is not reading correctly before I'd believe you could put a cam in a TBI motor that would make it pull that high up. Frankly, the engine probably wouldn't even survive a rev that high! I don't even think the fueling maps in the ECM go as high as 7000.

OK, so you still have TBI and it's got a cam in it of some kind. That's instantly into the realm of custom tuning. TBI systems won't run worth a cup of warm spit as soon as there is a performance cam involved in the equation. So, that's pretty much the end of the road right there until you can get some tuning done.

In the meantime, just to get you maybe running a little better.... are you setting the base timing with the timing wire disconnected, per factory timing procedure? It will be WAY retarded under actual operating conditions if you don't.

Mallory distributor? Is it still a computer controlled distributor? Didn't know Mallory made a computer controlled HEI.

Yeah, I disconnect that weather pack and set the timing, stock timing says 0 degrees but I'm advanced at 9 without the E. A. plugged in I'm still unsure If my car is cammed, at about 3200rpm it starts pulling, chirps going into second sometimes and it keeps pulling even after the tach hits the plastic...I have a Holley dp 850 I'm thinking about putting on with some 305 vortec heads, but I'm on the fence about it. I wanna keep the tbi but if I can't get my car running right I'll take it off...
