350 is a good idea and a virtual bolt in -some minor details will depend on what 350 you use;flywheel, intake manifold, etc.I used an '84 350 in my '82 and it was an exact bolt in

i was looking at a crate engine in which i can consult from manufacturer ,but that limits me to carburetor and costly.i was looking at used L.S.1 5.7 liter with tpi injection, for a fraction of cost, but used .and planning on rebuilding it.thus lower cost max bang for buck.but i need to know will it fit, as you stated will i need to change tranny?if that the case.thats not going to be fun, keep in mind the car still runs and only 70,000 miles on her.

TPI is not found on ls1. Ls1 is a better engine than 350 but a more difficult swap.
