Highest RPM's my stock ignition can fire at...?

So I launched my car all the way up to the 6000RPM area and everything seemed good until i start to hear a loud backfire.....I slow down to a complete stop and then I start to drive again and at 3000RPM's the engine starts to backfire again...I turn off the car for about 30 min and start driving again and its back to normal...

My question is that what would be the top RPM's that my stock ignition can handle??and what could've caused the backfiring at those RPM's...?thanks!

6000 should be no problem if you have an HEI in good working condition. I run mine to 7000 and don't have an issue. More than that and you should consider aftermarket though, imo.

If you don't run HEI I don't know your answer however.

Well beyond any RPM at which the engine makes any meaningful power and therefore that you would ever have any cause to run it at, unless you were tired of it and just trying to blow it up

what could've caused the backfiring at those RPM's
Running it at high enough RPM for long enough that the 10,000-yr-old crusties built up in your fuel lines near the gas tank, made the carb fuel bowl run dry; then after it idled for a few seconds (full fuel delivery to the carb but no drain from engine load consuming it), the fuel level built back up, and all was good again
