Hello everyone I have a fairly nice 91" Pontiac firebird with a V8 305 in it and I have noticed that when I go to pump gas into the gas and remove the gas tank cap I get a lot of vapor/air coming out of it, is this something to be worried about or something that can be fixed? I also notice I have a smell of gas around the car when its on, I don't know if its an exhaust issue or what it could be and am a little scared it could be something major. Any ideas?

 

Possibly the purge line from the tank to the charcoal canister is blocked not letting the tank vent pressure

Should be able to get a vented gas cap.

 

Doesn't actually solve the problem does it?
Just bypasses it
These cars use a sealed system with a non vented cap and the tank fumes are burnt in the engine
