Knocking on acceleration

I have been working on my ride for the past couple of weeks trying to get it to run well again. It has been sitting for 3 years, and just did the f/p and it wouldn't idle. So I pulled the throttle body, cleaned it and found that I needed to replace the IAC.
Ok, just finished putting everything back together, and it has a bit of a miss, and a tapping sound. Both at all speeds.
Also, when you hit the throttle quick, it seems to stumble a bit, knock, then rev. Sorta like it's detonating.
I used the stethoscope and couldn't really pin point the tapping sound. But I think that may be a lifter in the rear driver side. I haven't pulled anything apart yet.

I set timing dead on the other day after I got the f/p in and before I did the IAC and throttle body cleaning.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Well, its knocking because you know those guys at Car Craft!
I'd pull the valve covers & look for a loose rocker, sometimes they do loosen up.

Yeah, I'd fully agree with you, but it's a new motor. The stock 350 was a little anemic, so I built a new 383 for it. I also went though the trans and put in a new rear end. I drove it almost every day, for about a year or so when I lived close to work. Then I moved 30 miles from work, so had to buy a Honda. Then other things happened and had to park it at a friends house for a while. Now I have room for it, so I want to drive it again.

So, anybody got any suggestions? What should I be looking for? When I rap the throttle from idle, I get a quick dead spot and rattle, then it picks up and revs. It lasts only for a split second. It won't do it from a slow throttle opening.

Check for loose torque conveter bolts.
