Ground wires?
Ground wires?
I have a stock 84 h.o.
Ive been trying to properly tune the carb, and today I noticed what i believe to be ground wires had been ripped out of the female connection where its bolted on the top bolt for my alternator bracket.
Does anyone know what these two wires are, they are too short to reach the bolt now so im thinking im gonna have to add wire to reach.

Re: Ground wires?
Unfortunately, my only way was with my phone which I broke.
One wire is black with a white stripe and the other is black, also one looks like copper wire and the other metal wire.
They come out from the wire loom that the mcs comes from and looks grounded on the top of the intake by the upper alternator bracket mounting bolt

Re: Ground wires?
Those are both grounds. The "other metal" is just tinned copper. Very ordinary and routine.
Put a new ring terminal on them and bolt them to whatever good ground contact point they'll reach. I'd suggest one of the water outlet studs, or some one of the intake bolts that's actually a stud with a nut holding some bracket or something.
Remember, not everything the factory did, was because "it was best" that way, or "it was the only way", or "nothing else worked"; ALOT of it was merely because IT WAS EASY ON THE PRODUCTION LINE. Just because you can't EXACTLY duplicate it, isn't always a big deal. This would be one of those times.

Thanks sofakingdom, that thought never even crossed my mind.
Any idea as to what its grounding, because im 100% sure ive driving without it grounded with no real noticeable issues (the carbs not properly tuned)

Re: Ground wires?
Doesn't too much matter what they ground; whatever it is, it isn't getting grounded now.
There's a time and a place for wondering about stuff like that, and another time and place to just make it right and move on. This would be the latter kind of time and place.
You might find that with all the wires hooked up, the carb tune might just suddenly become AHELLUVALOT better.
