Intake Advice
Hi guys,
Proudly just built my first 383, going to be a big step up from the 305. So, i've gone with Edelbrock Performer RPM Heads, Lunati 60103 cam, and I'm trying to figure out intake. I already have a Weiand 8004 Action/Plus, and i'm trying to find out if this will work for me or if I desperately need to step up to a performer rpm, or something different. I know the importance of matching components, I just am unsure of just how much i'll gain or lose by going with mid-rise versus low-rise, etc. It's intended to be a mean street car. thanks guys,

Re: Intake Advice
The Action Plus is only about a half-step above a stock one. While it will "work" (bolt on and the engine will still run), it won't be appropriate to the rest of your motor. It stands a good chance of becoming "The Restriction". No sense in strangling your project over something THAT CHEEEEEEEEEP when you can fix it so EEEEEEEEZILY and for SO LITTLE MONEY.
Not sure about "desperate"...
That's not a word I would ordinarily apply to such a situation.
Based on where you are, if you intend to drive the car on the street at all as it looks like you do, I'd recommend a regular non-Air-Gap Performer RPM. The RPM heads (lacking the exhaust crossover) will make it a serious pain to actually use in cold weather, which the Air Gap would make even worse. Like the Action Plus, sure, it'll "run"... maybe even "make more power" at times.... but it won't be ANY fun AT ALL to drive until it's warmed up for quite a while. The TINY compromise in power will be worth the VAST improvement in driveability.

Re: Intake Advice
Thank you Sofa, you're always full of helpful advice. Yes that does sounds like the plan. A little reading goes a long way, i've found that the non-air-gap manifold is designed to work well with those heads, and I didnt even know there was a no-gap version. That's what i'll go with. For under 200 bones, it's a good deal anyhow. Thanks guys
