305 high idle & electrical issues
so i am experiencing several issues with my 305. I recently rebuilt the carburetor. Come to find out the accelerator pump is either not long enough (though it is the same length as the one removed.) or the springs were swapped incorrectly. im going to check that out tommorrow. i also had a problem with the choke relay buzzing, swapping it had no effect. i believe after much research that the culprit is the diode trio in the alternator. going to fix that soon as well. my big problem is a high idle. Which i believe is causing the car to diesel. The vacuu, lines were all recently replaced and the motor had been originally sprayed with carb cleaner to search for a leak to no avail. The tps seems mostly fine but jumps around a bit as it is backing off. Im going to replace it but i don't believe this is the culprit. does anyone else have any ideas for my high idle i/ssue. Maybe there is a vacuum leak in an uncommonly suspected area? The timing is fine and i just dont see why the idle would be so high when in park. The idle adjustment screw is backed all the way out and carb is adjusted correctly. Any ideas

hot rod
have you set the tps to spec? also have you adjusted the fast idle solenoid on the drivers side of the carb. also there is two holes in the accelerator pump arm that the arm from the accelerator lever pushes on. should adj the fast idle solenoid when it is energized. it usually comes on when you turn on the ac.

Re: 305 high idle & electrical issues
Well I just bought a new tps and installed it. It should be correct outvofvthe box I also have a new accelerator pump that I hope is the right length. I know the fast idle solenoid is not causing the issue. But I will adjust it anyways just in case. I feel as if the idle
has gone down after putting the tps in but the car still diesels. Maybe the choke is adjusted wrong? Or even too worn out to be properly adjusted. I'm gonna play with it more tomorrow. Thanks for the help

Its the fast idle solenoid. Why is it staying on when the ac is off.. does anyone know how to check I want to see if the unit is faulty or something else

Re: 305 high idle & electrical issues
The idle bump solenoid will engage when the TPS is reading high. Verify that your TPS is set to around 0.40 to 0.50 volts at idle. You can backprobe the B and C (middle and bottom) terminals with the key in 'run' (engine not running). Once the adjustment plug is removed you can lightly tap an appropriately sized roll pin over the set screw to adjust it.
If your choke is not disengaging the fast idle cam will keep the idle high and cause dieseling. Disconnect the wire to the idle bump solenoid to verify that it is, indeed, the culprit.

I'm going to check that out as soon as I get the chance my guy at the local carb shop told me that my accelerator pump was not long enough. it doesn't trinkle at all when you first get on the throttle all it does is squirt hard when it's about a halg inch down. the carbmade been rebuilt before and I switched out the accelerator pump with a new 1 when I rebuilt it but it was the same length
