Starting Problem

I apologize in advance for the long story,

On Monday I went out to my car to put it on ramps to check my spark plugs. I had it started up and when I put it into drive it died. Wouldn't turn over or anything. All I got was a clanging sound when I turned the key and all the lights would dim. So I decided to change out the starter. Did that and still got the same results. Tested the battery and it's fine. I eventually was able to get the starter to click but that was it. When I tried to jump it, it would only clang and the lights would dim. I also replaced the starter again tonight to try to see if it was that, but it was a no go. It's not the VATS system because the security light goes off. Anyone have any ideas of what this could possibly be?

I replaced the positive cable already. Should I replace the negative as well?

Re: Starting Problem

Just been having this problem on my 91 as well. I'd replace the neg battery cable as well. Check your ground site for corrosion as well.

Also, did your starter have shims? If not, maybe you might need them? Just a thought.
