Need help choosing a cam for my 400!!
Need help choosing a cam for my 400!!
I am building a 400 sbc. I can't decide on how big of a cam I want to use. I have a Edelbrock performer manifold, an edelbrock carb that flows 650 cfm, and a 9.5:1ish compression. My heads are 1.94 intake and 1.50 exhaust. What cam size would be ideal for streetability and power? I think max rpm should be around 5500-6000 rpm.
Thanks for any input!!

With the small valves, small intake, and small carb, best not to get too aggressive on the cam.
Why do you say your compression will be around 9.5:1?
A cam somewhere in the high 2teens to low 220s of intake duration, and a bigger exh lobe than int, will probably be about right.

I'm using a set of heads off a 350, so the compression chamber is smaller and increases my compression ratio. The pistons are hyperteutic so i figure ill be in the 9.0-10.0:1 ball park, just a guestimate haha. Anyways what lift do you think i should use?

What heads off of what 350? What's the casting #? What's the deck clearance of the pistons you're using?
