torsioal damper/harmonic balancer
Does anyone know what the useful life of a Fluid Damper is and can it be damaged from a side impact? My sbc Fluid Damper to a trip off my table to the floor. There is no noticable damage to the exterior however I have a vibration now that comes and goes at all rpms, I'm not sure how old it is as I purchased it at ebay but it worked fine on a previous engine. I now have it on a completly rebuilt sbc with a balanced forged rotating assembly, the damper is neutral balanced.
Thank you,
Roy

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.
I can't say I have any experience with the Fluidampr products, and haven't heard of anything like your situation.
Best bet would be to call them and ask. Most likely they'll tell you, "You can't trust it - buy a new one." Might suggest you send it to them to have it checked out.
It's a pretty critical piece, though, so I wouldn't take any chances.
