I still cannot find a brake prop valve for my 1983 Camaro with front and rear disc

This is my third time posting here and i still cannot find a brake proportioning valve for my 1983 Z28 Camaro that has disc brakes in the front and rear. I have called chevy and they do not have any valves, i called every salvage yard withing 100 miles and none of them have the valve either! I tried jegs, summit, advance auto, auto zone eveything and no one has a brake prop valve for my camaro!!!!!

I have given up on finding a replacement and now my question is their anyway to get a brake prop valve from another year camaro to fit my camaro?

Reflare the ends of your lines and use one from 84-88.

Re: I still cannot find a brake prop valve for my 1983 Camaro with front and rear dis

Thank you both for the help Apeiron if i reflare my lines and use a prop valve from an 84-88 how sure are you that will work. I dont have a lot of time to work on it so i just did not want to buy the valve and it not work so i have to ask.

I looked at the link you gave me Five7Kid and that valve is a different style from the one in mine. Was the prop valve in your 82' the same style or was it different? I also noticed that there is no compatible years listed for that prop valve do you know if that means its universal or not?

Im sorry for the million questions i just really dont want to buy the wrong prop valve or go messing with my lines and it not work out. Thanks again for the replies and thanks in advance for answering my questions

Re: I still cannot find a brake prop valve for my 1983 Camaro with front and rear dis

When i converted my car to rear disc back in '95,i had trouble finding a proportining valve and was about to plumb in a K/H universal proportion valve when i found one at the junkyard- tried to get a new one from the dealer but they said said NLA in '95...Do you know for sure the proportion valve is the problem?Hate for you to dig all over for one and find out the original was good and the problem elsewere...What are the symptoms? has the shop tried to bleed the calipers again? '82-88 delco rear calipers are known to develop leaks and suck a little air on occaision.

Re: I still cannot find a brake prop valve for my 1983 Camaro with front and rear dis

+In my opinion it is not the prop valve heres why. When i originally lost the brakes my master cylinder failed but did not leak and their was still full fluid in it when the pedal went to the floor.

Fast forward to after the shop replaced the master cylinder and the brakes went the second time. There was brake fluid all over the bottom of the master cylinder. I called the guy and demanded a free tow and that he fix the car for free. He agrees and two days later says it was not his work that caused me to loose the brakes but a failed brake prop valve.
The thing is when he fixed it the first time he told me it needed a brake prop valve but he could not find one. I asked if it needed it to stop and he said no just the rear brakes wont function but the car will always stop! Now he says that the brake fluid"boiled out of the master cylinder because the car only stops on the front brakes"

I know a car stops 75% on the front brakes all the time so this does not seem right. Also if the prop valve was "broken" when the cylinder went why now does it do this. I think its all bull shi* but if i get a prop valve and it dont fix it he has to fix his shi**y work for free

Almost forgot about the symptoms. On the hour drive back from the shop the brakes felt mushy and took longer to stop the car. The pedal went farther and farther down the longer i drove. The master cylinder had brake fluid all over the bottom when i checked it.

sure sounds like leaky flare connections at the master cylinder-those flare fittings can be tricky, they will often leak if they are not exactly straight to the brass seat in the master cylinder fitting-sometimes i have had to reposition and tighten a few times to stop the seeping. If the shop can get the leaking stopped and properly bleed the brakes they will likely be fixed
