ok i'm back i have bought an 88 irocz 5.7 auto . ok this car has been sitting in a garage for a long time i purchased from a long time friend. i've just about went thru it top to bottom.
my question is does the tps sensor control shifting in these cars it has been so long since i worked on one i'm rusty.
the problem i am having is it it doesn't want to shift when accelerating unless i let off the fuel. easy cruising it will shift fairly good. it still shifts kinda high in the rpm range but it shifts. i haven't read the voltage on the tps as of yet but there was no code prior to me unplugging it. i reset the computer and it wasn't there but still did the same thing. the trans has plenty of fluid. another thing when i am driving and i go to manually shift it down thru the gears it goes from od, to d , then when i go to 2nd nothing and same with first. i've been searching but things have change a lil in the four years since i've been on.
any insight or help would be greatly appreciated. oh and i did the tv adjustment same thing

 

I'm no expert but can say with certainty that the TPS has nothing to do with shift points on a TPI car.

 

Tps is used for several things, one being power enrichment mode. It has nothing to do with transmission shifts or shift points.
