'84 T/A, No fuel pumping out.
Hey guys, I have a 1984 Trans Am Recaro Edition, it has a factory 305 CI 5.0 liter High Output L69 V8 with an automatic 700-R4 transmission. The problem is it will not pump fuel past the mechanical fuel pump (just changed it to a new one with no results). I did some research and found that some of these L69 T/As came with a carburator, and mechanical fuel pump, PLUS an electric in-tank pusher pump that produces 3 psi to prevent percolation. I checked my fuse block under the driver's dash and sure enough there is a 10 amp fuse for "E. Fuel Pump", it checks out fine. Now, I am checking three more electric issues that could cause no flow: 1) 20 amp fuse for the fuel pump relay. 2) The fuel pump relay. 3) Bad pusher pump in the fuel tank.
If all that checks out fine then maybe I have a clogged fuel line from the tank, blowing the line in reverse with some air pressure should clear it.
The tank has about 7 gallons of fresh fuel, has a new fuel filter to the carburator, new fuel pump (I thought the old one might have been the problem, it wasn't). When I pour some fuel into the carb and crank the engine it starts and stalls... The bottom line is that no fuel comes out of the fuel line coming from the mechanical fuel pump to the carb.
Any light that can be shed on this subject would be greatly appreciated.
I need to know where is the 20 amp fuse to the fuel pump relay is located (my '88 GTA 350 V8 has it by the battery) and which relay is the fuel pump relay by the driver's side firewall (I know the left one is the electric cooling fan relay, which leaves a few to the right side, they also have ID numbers on the relays). It is a riddle that I need to solve soon, many thanks in advance.

Possible your lines are blocked preventing fuel from being pulled through them. If you have access to an air tank, disconnect your fuel lines from the pump and blow air back toward the tank. If it bubbles in the tank your lines are clear. Make sure the return line is also clear.
the mechanical pump rotates when the engine does, so you you'll need to crank it 5-10 times continuously before you'll see fuel coming through it.
