??? about my build
??? about my build
I have a 87 305 iroc with a carb. I am rebuilding a 350 right now to putting it in. the 350 is from a early 70s truck. I read I can use the same push rods that are in my 305 as long as there straight, is the correct?
Also I am using a set of vortec heads also, which means I need self aligning rocker arms, isn't that whats in my heads for my 305 and can I use them?
Both of these questions I have heard and read yes, but everyone on this sight always gives out great info so thought I would ask.
Thanks

No on both counts.
'87 had roller lifters, and therefore shorter pushrods than the '86-earlier flat tappets used.
Self-aligning rockers didn't come out from the factory until '88. To verify, look at the pushrod holes in your '87 heads and compare them to your Vortec heads. The '87 heads will have oval shaped holes, and the Vortec has round holes. Also, look at the tips of the rocker arms on the valve end. Are they smooth across the face from side to side, or are there nubs on each side? Smooth = non-self-aligning. Nubs = self-aligning.
