Re: Fuel Pump Problem

Since you replaced the pump, I would start by checking for power to the pump at the four pin connector just above and in front of the fuel tank. If this is an 85, the tan wire is power to the pump, if it's the 89 in your signature, it's the tan and white wire. The wire should have power for 2 seconds when the key is turned on and should have constant power when the engine is cranking or running. If you find no power there, check the fuel pump/ECM fuse that is close to the battery in a black fuse holder that should be attached to the passenger side fender well.

The fuel pump relay is located on the firewall above the brake booster. There are a few relays in that area and they are all the same relay. If this is an 85, look for the relay with two large orange wires, a small black and white wire, small light blue wire, and a small green and white wire. If it's an 89, the relay has a large orange wire, a small red wire, a small tan and white wire, a small green and white wire, a small black and white wire. There should be ground on the black and white wire at all times. There should be power on the orange wire at all times. The ECM applies 12v to the green and white wire to turn the pump on.

Re: Fuel Pump Problem

Wow that is a lot more than I bargain for Thanks very very much. In fact it is my 85 that has a problem my newer 89 has no issue yet. I'll check this and get back to you with the results.
