Need help finding tach wire

87 305 CC quadrajet, 700r4, just swapped intake, edelbrock square bore carb, hei distributor. Need to know which wire controls the tach. My previous coil pigtail has a white and a pink wire on it, Im using the pink as my 12V power source to my distributor, I was thinking the white was the tach but I tried it and it's not...Help!!

Re: Need help finding tach wire

Well something's not right, I tried the white one and the tach pegged at zero. I was working on the car in other places too. Anyhow when I went for a road test my volts gauge was also pegged at zero and what I had done was blown the gauges fuse. Now that Ive gotten rid of the computer does that mean I need an aftermarket tach?

Computer has nothing to do with the tacho.
The tacho signal goes straight from the coil Neg terminal to the Tacho ( white wire )
I would be checking ( with a the cond of the white wire from the coil to the conector for the gauge cluster at the dash

I would be checking with a DVM the cond of the white wire from the coil to the connector for the gauge cluster at the dash

Re: Need help finding tach wire

Ok Vetteoz you are correct on the white wire. Guess I had to take the cap off to get it right, and must have hit the positive lead the first time. Thanks for the help and patience
