EGR/Exhaust Manifold issue?

Ok, so I've made the attempt to begin working on my 1991 Camaro RS with a 3.1 liter once again.

It has sat for a while so I'm going to drop the tank and put fresh fuel with stabilizer in it.

Heres what I know so far:

I'm reading 40 psi at the fuel rail.

I hear the fuel pump engage.

If i spray starting fluid into the air intake I can get it to fire, idle up for 2 seconds, and then immediately die.

I obviously have spark of some sort, I just replaced all the plugs yesterday.

I also just purchased a new battery for it.

My question is:

In a moment of bad judgement I removed the EGR that mounts on top of the exhaust manifold to access all of the spark plugs a bit easier. Both studs are broken off inside of the exhaust manifold and the metal EGR hose is now broken....could the quarter sized hole that is in the exhaust manifold right now be causing the symptoms I'm describing. This is the first vehicle I've ever had with fuel injection so I'm a bit new to the electronics that are involved with it.

Any and all input is welcome!

Thanks!
