I'm new to this forum but have used it for help many times before, I just bought a 86 Trans Am 305 TPI, It idles very rough but no matter how low the idle drops it doesn't stall and when I go to rev it bogs down and wants to stall. Sometimes if I feather the gas or mash the throttle I can get it up. I pulled it in my garage right after the tow truck dropped it off so I haven't had a chance to really drive it and see if it wants to bog in gear. I cleaned the maf sensor and also unplugged it and started it up but it ran worse. I know I should replace the filter, tps sensor, and iac valve but money's kind of tight right now. If someone could give me possible causes of this it'd be greatly appreciated, thanks

 

i have been having a similar issue also and i cant figure it out..

 

Scan for trouble codes, Test your fuel injectors for ohms. Then go from there.

Check O2 sensor, if its bad it could be telling you to run rich/lean

 

Could be a misfire? Or a bad egr that's sticking open? It's easier to feel a misfire though, so that can be easily ruled out if you know what to look for. Any progress?

 

It's not misfiring, my dad is rushing me to get the body ready for primer by Saturday so he can use the garage for a side job. I haven't had the time to start the mechanical work yet but I'll write back hopefully next week when I can replace the o2 sensor

 

Check your fuel pressure, should be around 35-38psi at idle.

 

Could be anything. Check for codes, Ohm your injectors, clean your IAC,etc.
