summit crate motor question
anyone out there got any input on these summit crate motors?
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ml...3ct1/overview/
If I dont get my oil pressure corrected I may get one of these with next years tax return. One thing in particular is the exterior balancing on the one I linked. Whats the difference compared to an internally balanced?

Re: summit crate motor question
A external balanced engine like a 383 or 400 sbc require a weighted balancer and flywheel.

Re: summit crate motor question
Well I looked up the balancing thing and found this post, but I would still like to hear if anyone has used these motors from summit and how they performed for them.
For that 383 stroker you need an externaly balanced flywheel (if man trans, or flex plate if auto) and damper.
The 400 sb was the only small block chevy to use the extrenaly balanced flywheels/dampers. They have counter weights on them..
The rest of the small blocks (283, 327, 305, 350, etc etc) was internaly balanced and needed non counter weighted flywheels/dampers
The 383 stroker is a cross breed of the 350 block and the 400 crank so you will need the 400's externaly balanced parts unless an aftermarket internal balanced crank was used
