Quick question about taking apart a distributor

I am trying to take apart my distributor to change the pickup coil. I have an 85 2.8l v6 engine. The gear at the bottom was missing the pin. So I don't have to remove it. But what I really need to know is the gear threaded on or is it pushed on? I don't want to break it.

Re: Quick question about taking apart a distributor

I don't recall ever seeing a gm dist that had a screw on drive gear. should just slide off. Probably seized on the shaft from old coked up oil.
