NEw guy here... Got a few questions.

I've committed to buy an 87 IROC-Z from a buddy. It's fairly straight with oxidized paint. It is the red on red with the 350 and auto trans and t-tops. I've printed off the tech sheet and am going to go check the VIN to verify what I've been told. It doesn't have spark for some reason and the tranny might be bad. My buddy buys cars for scrap so he only knows what he's been told. It's got some stains in the interior but it's not ripped up. The car has 130000 miles on it and it seems like a good project. I've never owned a Camaro or undertaken a project like this. I can get the car for under a $1000 bucks and it is a Montana car so no rust. What's a car like this worth as it sits?

It is "worth" whatever you (willing buyer) decide to pay buddy (willing seller).

I'd buy it up. Worse case if you can't figure out the ignition switch to a carb setup.

Re: NEw guy here... Got a few questions.

Well I bought it and got my spark tester out and there is plenty of spark at the coil and the plug wires. I'm listening to the car when the key is switched on and I'm not hearing the fuel pump prime. Is there a fuel relief valve on the fuel rail in these TPI cars? I would imagine there has to be some where. Any other thoughts on how to check fuel delivery in this case?

Shoot starting fluid in it.

If it starts, it has a fuel delivery problem.

Re: NEw guy here... Got a few questions.

Alright... I found the schrader valve and I'm not getting a thing out of it. I got it to run with starting fluid but that's it. I found the fusible link for what I was told was the fuel pump. Its under the hood coming off the hot lead of the battery with a 20 amp fuse and its good. I'm not hearing the pump click on to prime so the pumps bad or the relay is I'm guessing. What do you guys think?

I'm thinking, time to figure out whether it's the relay or the pump.

Relay has 2 fat wires and 2 skinny ones. Fat ones will have 12V on one at all times, and 12V on the other only when the relay operates. Check that first.

Re: NEw guy here... Got a few questions.

Well I swapped out the fuel pump relay tonight and still nothing. Is there anything else like a inertia switch or a fuel pressure switch that would shut off the supply of fuel?

Re: NEw guy here... Got a few questions.

If its not your relay then it's most likely a bad pump, remove it and test it, if its bad buy a new one, sounds like you got a nice project, good luck
