1989 firebird 305 no start

I last started my firebird two days ago, and it fired right up with no problem.
today I try to start it and it makes no noise. the temp guage goes all the way up, and the aftermarket stereo screen goes blank when I turn the ignition.
I tried to jump start it, and that did not work.

the power windows go up and down, the lights, and the radio all work without any issues, other than when I attempt to start it. I am waiting until it gets dark out to see if the lights dim when turning the key.

I do not have any way of testing the battery at the moment, and I cant jack the front end up to check out the starter.

any ideas on what my issue could be?
I am going to guess that it is the battery, does anyone know if pep boys or advanced auto test batteries, if I were to disconnect it and take it to them?

any ideas or advice would be appreciated.. thanks

If the battery has enough power to make the window motors move than you should atleast hear the starter solenoid click. Does the security light stay on ?

the security light does not stay on. I just went out because its now dark outside, and the headlights do not dim. the head unit started to blink and make a clicking sound, and now does not work, and the display looks like its got every light on very dimly, and gets dimmer when I turn the key.
and the battery guage dropped down to 8.

I think this has it narrowed down to "I need a new battery"

Hey brother, do not buy another battery. I just went through this it is your starter solenoid that went out. If you go to oreilley their starters are $55 and $10 back with core.... Just replace the whole thing i just went throught that. If you get under your car on passenger side starter is next to flywheel, and only has two bots holding it in very easy to change

Re: 1989 firebird 305 no start

It should do it just make sure you get all the right wires connected and disconnect the battery before you do it. The starter is heavy too so get ready for a workout, there should be one wire that goes to the "S" wire and mine had the postive battery, and two other going to the postiive post of the solenoid. I had to redo some of the wires down there because the rings didn't fit the new distributor
