timing question again

i have finally got all the bugs in my car worked out, but the issue im having is its running hot 200 and up. i put my timing light on and i got 12* base and at 3000 rpm its goes up to 42*. is that to much timing? how do i get it to drop to the preferred 36*? i dont have vac advance dist, and never messed with the weights/springs in it. im thinking thats my overheating problem. any insight?
