1992 L05 (350) with 89 L98 heads and cam & TPI
My current engine has knocking someplace internally. I decided to pull the motor (next weekend) and switch it for a good running L05 TBI out of a GMC conversion van. My question is:
The L05 is from my research a 9.3:1 compression engine with swirl heads. What I want to do is switch out the complete top end of my L98 (except my motor is a crate with 217 64cc heads) onto the L05 as well as the oil pan for the Camaro and the Camaro exhaust manifolds. I also want to switch out the cam out of the L98.
Is there going to be any issues with this simple conversion? Am I missing anything that I might also need to think about?
I will be putting in a new oil pump, timing chain and gaskets. I will be using 24lb injectors that I had on the L98, new distributor/Delco module. When I installed the 24lb injectors last year I did not have the car tuned. Will I need to do this for the chip? I really would like the advice. Thank you in advance.
Factory specs on the L05 - It had 9.3:1 compression ratio, 193 head castings(1.94/1.50 valves 64 cc chambers),a cam that measures 248/252* @ .008, .382/.401 lift, 109* lobe separation, installed on a 112* intake centerline.

Shoot me a PM and I'll fiil you in on my '92 L05 swap into my '84 Corvette. Ditching the CFI for TPI along with a Speed Pro cam and long tube headers.

The L05 cam is trash; WAY smaller than the L98 cam, and flat-tappet besides.
Other than that, the other parts will bolt up just fine.
