Anyone know of any good sources that I can purchase remaned cylinder heads...the only one I know of off the top of my head is alliedmotorparts.

OK if it sounds like I'm picking on ya alittle....well yep I am.

But let's get this right.

What is the casting numbers on the back of the block???.

What pistons??.

What cam??.

To be used for what purpose??.

Budget??.

I'm not trying to you,just want to give good info from me or anyone else.

Sorry for the late response, this is pretty much a budget build. Stock pistons with 4 valve relief. Basically this is a replacement for the 305 that went bad. The casting number on the block is 3970010

Still trying to figure out what you have.Stock 350 pistons with a 3.75 stroke won't work.You need stroker pistons that has a different connecting rod pin height.A 4" bore(stock 350 pistons) with a 3.75 stroke isn't 383.It requires aleast a .030 over bore or greater to get to be a 383 to 388.

Works like this:Engine size + piston choices + head gasket compressed thickness +Head choices =SCR's ='s cam choices.That is a starting point.We gotta know what you have exactly to effectively help you.

Sorry about all the confusion, I feel special right now lol. This is a stock rebuild of a 350 that I picked up from a guy advertising on craigslist. I looked at the block and its casting was 3970010. I believe this is a block from 69-80. What I was looking for was a good website I can go to to purchase remaned heads that are pre 86 as I want a set that will bolt up to the TPI in my 86 camaro. The only heads I have lying around are a set of 601 heads and a set of 624 heads.

For the price(little price that is)of the low dollar a set RHS or World,I suggest you buy a new set from either one of them.That is a shot in the dark not really knowing the SCR or cam that you have.The question is if you have re-builder pistons which have quite different pistons pin heights and there for at TDC would be alot farther down in the hole.The other question is if the block was ever decked.A clue to that is if the stamped numbers on the block deck in front of the passenger head is missing then is was decked,but not knowing how much is another question needing to be answered in order to determine the SCR and what size chamber head to buy.Oh SCR=static compression ratio.And that SCR helps determine what cam should be used with purchased heads.These values are important not only for a performance re-build,but also for any standard re-build as well.If you measure from the top ring to the deck with a dial indicator it will help at TDC find how far down in the hole you are,but not the piston volume."Most of the time" four eye brow pistons are either + 6 to + 8 cc's.In this link I am leaving for you to figure out the compression ratio(which is again SCR)will help you understand the values you need.

It all comes down to a question of either a standard size of 64cc,72cc,or 76cc head chamber.Cam timing or which cam is in the engine is also a factor to find out what the DCR is.(Dynamic compression ratio)That leads you to know if you need to run high test pump gas in it or not,where you don't want to go beyond a SCR of 9.5 or a DCR of 8.5 with steel heads.The for runner in head chamber size given you yr range of block would be either a 64cc or 76cc for standard sizes in heads.

Bottom line I suggest you buy new castings for heads(best bet they are not cracked) for the cost difference it is kind of a no brainier in low dollar cast heads.And that you stick to name brand cast heads like RHS or World for reliability.

Call the local parts houses (advance, oreilly, autozone, etc.) they usually have "rebuilder's quality" remanufactured heads and they'll have a warranty. Not the best for performance but they can look up the year/make/model that you are working on (to match the intake?) and get the heads that 'should' go with what you're wanting...

Again - they're not great for performance so if you're looking for "bang for the buck" or something cheap to increase performance there are plenty of options for just a tiny bit more cost...
