Gauge Cluster speedo question.
I haven't a clue where to put this, so I'll put it here.
It is very likely, I will combine both birds I have into one. The more I look at the '84 the more rot I find, the more money it will cost to repair it all. Concept here is simple. Take the best of both birds and combine them.
The '88 GTA has a running motor, a theoretically better rear end (got a 9 bolt, 3.70 gears), an aluminum driveshaft, and a body that other than a few dents, is far cleaner and far easier to work with. The '84 TA, has the T tops, the T56, the better brakes, and the suspension upgrades. Combine both cars into one. Yes including the roof, you won't convince me otherwise. So PLEASE leave that alone. I know it has been done, and a friend of mine is willing to help me do it, hes done it on a 79 that I saw in person and didn't know the roof was swapped til he told me weeks later.
However, there is a tiny snag. The T56 has been converted to work in the '84. Is there any chance I could simply swap clusters retaining the converted tailhousing? I know this is backwards, but if I can make it work, I'll do it, the rest of the guages are the same save for the electronic 140 MPH speedo on the GTA. Due to the fact that the GTA is an auto, I'll likely use the interior from the '84 for the manual console and all that. If I can do the cluster swap without screwing anything up, I'll just swap it all in a few days. Would just need to get a clutch kit. Have everything else for the swap. VATS is a whole other deal.
