Recessed lip in lifter bores?

I picked up a 14093638 4 bolt TBI block with the proper machining for the dog bones, lifter "studs/towers", provision for cam plate. I will have to tap the holes for the spider plate to bolt down but that's fine.

The lifter bores on this motor are a larger diameter for about .5" and then reduce down to the proper size; giving the lifter bore a "recessed lip". Anybody know what this is about and if its a good or bad thing? They are all even and must have been done by GM.

Re: Recessed lip in lifter bores?

Well I accidentally drilled into the oil galley where the cam/bearings sit in 2/3 spots when tapping it for the spider plates. If I put Loctite or something of that nature on the threads, will it work or did I just ruin the block?!

Im not even goin to ask how, But they bolts are only 1/4-20x3/4 Im sure lock title will help wil the seal and any oil pressure loss would be minimal .

Not Loctite; use thread sealer. I'd suggest the "high-temp w Teflon" product.

That's just the way they did those bores. Not good or bad, really; just, how it is.

Re: Recessed lip in lifter bores?

Thanks guys. Never saw lifter bores like that so I was nervous. And drilling too far happened cause my tap has recessed threads and I was forces to drill further :/
