I installed a new glowshift oil pressure gauge today and got it wired up, it comes with a new sending unit. Anyway, when i went to remove the old sending unit and i barely turned it when it broke off at the base at the block ! What to do now ? I was able to thread a bolt into the hole and i put some liquid thread sealer on it, so i hope i dont get any leaks. What are my options as far as tapping in somewhere else to install the sending unit ?

Reverse drill bit that's slightly bigger than the hole of the brass that snapped off.

Use a lower powered drill, like a cordless, that the speed is gauged by how hard you pull the trigger. You're gonna wanna go slow.

Drench it with a very thin, synthetic oil so it can wick into the threads.

More often than not, the drill bit will start to draw out the culprit once it starts to barely dig in.

Since it's just brass, an EZ-Out can be used successfully.

Use one of the SQUARE kind, NOT the FLUTED kind. Just drive it in far enough for it to get a bite.

You don't want to use a drill, or anything else, on that part, that creates debris. That hole is an oil passage that's downstream of the filter. Meaning, ANY debris that gets in there, has only ONE escape route... through your bearings or lifters.

That's why I said "slow".

I guess that word is a matter of perspective, though.

Thankx guys, that would be the big thing im worried about is getting slivers of metal down in there when using an easy out, im not really comfortable with the idea. So would there be another spot somewhere i can tap into with perhaps some sort of adapter to get a sender unit connected to ? Or is the stock spot all there is ? Im thinking since i was able to get a bolt threaded in there i can perhaps find some kinda fitting i can adapt to accept the new sender.

I don't know of any other spot besides the one down by the oil filter and the one you have plugged now.

A screw extractor may get it out. Just get it nice and hot to loosen it up first.

I removed a bust off fuel pump bolt using the Craftsman equivalent of this.

I think i am just gonna get a Oil Filter Sandwich Adapter to plug the sensor into and just go that route.

Have you found a suitable oil filter sandwich adapter? I bought one through glowshift but the thing is too small, the outer diameter of the adapter is about equal to the inner diameter of the oil filter seat. I wasn't too happy with that at all, supposedly its for gm's newer style setup, smaller diameter with the same threads. I've been seraching everywhere for a good sandwich adapter, I just need one with a 1/8npt fitting for the dang sending unit. If glowshift made a larger diameter one it would be perfect.

Yea , i got this Flex-a-lite Adapter Oil Filter Sandwich Aluminum Natural 13/16-16" Thread - Flex-a-lite# 3963,
It fit perfect, but you have to buy a 1/2" plug and a 1/8" to 1/2" fitting, i got those from lowes. I assume you have a glowshift oil pressure gauge too ? That sending unit sucks ! do not over tighten those thumb screws ! i snapped off one now i have to buy another sender

Yeah, I like their gauges but this shuffle is kinda aggitating me a bit lol I was thinking of going that route but I wast too keen on the idea of having to step down the fittings, I've fought enough oil leaks with this car in the 6 years I've had it. I noticed the screws as well. Seems kinda cheap to me but whatever works, my factory gauge is shotty so if this will give me an accurate reading I'm happy with it

Northern Tool and Harbor Freight both sell a pipe nipple extractor set that will easily remove that.

BY FAR the best method for removing a busted fitting,.... I have more success using This kind of removal tools than any other type. Like he said,... fittings are brass so you don't need to smash it in to get it to bite. When taking out steel bolts - hit it hard !!



The only local parts store that had them locally was Pep-boys. All the other part stores had reverse bits. ( hate them ! )

The Oil Pressure fitting came in different shapes and sizes depending on the engine. Carb type had long neck, square head, & 1 port, while TPI was kinda' "stubby", had 2 ports and so on,..... If you post a pic of what yours looks like - I might have a spare.

Wish I could post a pic but I got so pissed ff and fired it in the trees beside the garage!
I found a local guy familiar around the 350 Engines and he's coming out the house tomorrow to make up a fitting... Says he has what I need!

hey guys, i got a 93 chevy 1500 350 tbi motor. i went to clean the oil pressure gauge fittings at the rear of motor by the distributor as i had a leak. when removing the fittings, i broke off the fitting in the motor. i was able to extract the fitting and save the threads with a snap on extractor kit. but i cannot find that broken fitting anywhere. can anyone point me in the right direction to finding this part?

I just used a fluted easy out when it happened to me. no big deal. grabbed and came right out.
