1986 305 camaro smoking.

Ok so i just moved into a new place and my roomates have a 1986 camaro.
the paint is a little rough but the interior is in great shape considering the age.
cracked dash and old weather striping everything else is cherry.
So anyways on with the car.
Started talking to them about the car and it turns out it started smoking when they where driving down the freeway. they pulled right over shut the car off and had it towed home home. the tow truck guy tells them its a cracked block...
So they assumed it was done for and it has sat in their drive way for 13 years.
So i set out to find this supposed crack.
pressure tested the coolent system. held 30psi.
checked the oil and its overfull. like 4-5 quarts over full.
drain the oil thinking that this thing was probably just over full on oil and thats what the smoke was.
got it fired up. runs pretty smooth. but low and behold its smoking. seems like it might be oil.
What i'm wondering now is there or was there any common failure points on these engines that would cuase them to smoke alot.
its got the carbed 305 with only 70k miles on it.
everything under the hood is factory.
never had a history of over heating or mechanical problems.

Well since it sat for 13 years it may have some ring seal issues. Most likely though it was passing oil through the valve guides or a bad pcv, I would do a compression test to see if you have a low cylinder

Compression test is next on the list.
It was parked for smoke in the first place. so i'm thinking it still the same issue. this isn't the first car i've brung back to life after sitting for years. everything was done right. each cly got some ATF. turned it by hand. primed the oil system. there very well could be some ring issues but it was smoking before it sat so i was thinking its more likely bad PCV or the valve seals failed.
Most the cars i work on are either from the 40's or more modern. i work in a volvo dealership.
I don't have a terrible lot of hands on with cars from the 80s with 100s of vacuum lines.
I was hoping that these had a common pcv failure or anything to check before i start pull parts to get into the head.

Since you said it was over full of oil but didn't say it smelled a little like fuel - if the mechanical fuel pump diaphram ruptures it can cause raw fuel to get into the crankcase - this assumes that it's carburated.

PCV could cause it but not super likely if it's that much smoke that they noticed it following behind them. Leaky intake gasket would do it (especially on the bottom of the intake runner between the lifter valley and head/intake area.)

Other things - do a compression test (dry and wet) and see what the compression numbers are to rule out a cracked ring or stuck rings

If you've got a scope - look inside the runners for signs of oil coming down the valves (guides) or into the intake via a leaky gasket.

Re: 1986 305 camaro smoking.

just got finished with the compression test. had about 90 across the board dry. I'm pretty sure thats from the 13 years of sitting and the rings are probably nice and gummed up. I've seen other engines like this start to gain some of that back after you run them a bit and get some of the carbon and gunk out of the rings.
one did show about 150 and another at 130.
The owner tells me it went from no smoke running fine to boom tons of smoke
when you start it up now it takes about 3-4 mins and it starts smoking alot. thats what was making me think it was maybe a valve seal issue. since it gona take a little bit to get enough oil in the head to have it start sucking down though the valves.

I think my plan of attack is gona be to get some new plugs in it. the old ones where super black and looked pretty fouled. run the new plugs then pull them and see what that tells me.

as far as the fuel pump goes its carbed but i wasn't sure if it had a mech pump or electric pump.
