Loud thud when coming to a stop

Hey everyone,

When I was coming home today my car started to make a loud thud when coming to a stop now it didn't happen at every stop but it happened a few times. Now the weird thing is when the thud happens I can feel it in the brake pedal as I am slowing down and applying pressure on it. It doesn't thud when I accelerate only when I come to a normal stop.

Now this just happened today so I don't know if its a recurring thing, I am just looking for some insight, so any ideas will be much appreciated.

Thanks

You might want to check the transmission mount. Also make sure your brake calipers dont have any broken or loose bolts. Did it happen when you were braking hard or what?

The reason why I said once is because it just started happening a mile or 2 from home and I havent driven it after that but I'm gonna drive it later and see if it still does it and check the tranny fluid just in case

Yeah....definitely check the tranny fluid!!! Hopefully everything looks good and it was just a rare fluke type thing. Give the motor mounts a good look at 2

Well I'm changing the oil tomorrow so while I'm under there I'll look for anything weird and check back in

Thanks again

Re: Loud thud when coming to a stop

Another thing I have noticed is that when driving about 25-35 mph i can hear a squeaking sound coming from the right side and the squeak changes pace when slowing down or speeding up. Now would that be the wheel bearing because i thought when those good bad they make more of a grinding sound.

Any idea what that squeaking could be?

Re: Loud thud when coming to a stop

worn u-joints is my guess.

they make a thud sound when you come to a stop and the driveshaft stops spinning. you will also hear noise which increases with RPM.

A broken trans mount makes a thud sound every time you accelerate and brake (the torque arm is moving the transmission)

worn wheel bearings will cause steering wheel to shudder when driving.
