Recommendation Please Re: Intake vs stock
Hey everyone, I have a 1984 Camaro L69 5.0 HO with the stock carburetor and stock intake manifold and edelbrock TES w/ AIR Headers. I have just come across a bran new never used 600CFM Holly Carburetor and an Edelbrock Intake Manifold. I am going to be doing some work to my car in a week because of a worn passenger side header gasket and Im wondering if I should put these two new parts in while I have the hood open.
Will I notice a performance increase with this new setup vs the old one? Will I be running into any issues switching the stock carb out for an aftermarket holly.?
Thanks for any help.

You probably won't notice any difference except that your computer will no longer be able to control the timing of the computer controlled distributor and, if you have an automatic, it will no longer control lock up.

On a stock or near stock engine the factory carb and intake are about as good as it gets.

It is a 5 speed T-5... any advantage to these parts just being new vs the 30 yr old ones on there lol. Will I have a check engine or choke light constantly on if i do replace? and is there a big disadvantage to the computer no longer being able to control the timing? In fact there is a bran new distributer that I could have as well although I dont know the brand on that yet. All of these parts were installed on an 83 but that project is no longer going forward and the parts have not been run yet.

Change the distributor, intake and carb if you want to. You will gain power over broken / disabled parts but not over a properly running factory setup

Speaking as the owner of a L69 5-speed car, I'll tell you, there's NOTHING to be gained by making that swap.
Don't do it. All maze and no cheeeze.
