Bog at WOT from nesr idle
Bog at WOT from nesr idle
I finally have my 350 engine and 700R4 transmission rebuilt and down to fine tuning now but can't seem to get it right.
Chevy 350 Roller Block with a performance roller cam and lifters, camel hump heads, street dominator holley intake, Holley 600cfm Carb, 2100 Stall Converter. This should have decent noticeable power in a 91 Camaro RS, my issue at idle to WOT it wants to bog and not run right, its driveable but just don't feel or sound like it should, I thinkered with air fuel mixture a little and I think it made it worse... The exhaust smells extremely rich it burns nose hairs... I adjusted the timing I'm at around 9* and it fires right up with ease warm or cold and no pinging.
If anyone has suggestions on what to look at I'd be grateful, I'm going to try and get it right after work.

Re: Bog at WOT from nesr idle
What size is the cam? It probably needs more timing at idle and the carb readjusted, but until you know the timing is right you're wasting your time adjusting the carb..
What distributor is in it?
What distributor is in it?
Re: Bog at WOT from nesr idle
The timing should be right if I advance from 9* to 12* it pings under load, dizzy is a AC Delco from AutoZone and the cam size isn't known exactly, I got it off a buddy and when i took it out to assemble my engine I failed to get a part #. From what I read exhaust that burns is lean I thought it would be rich but I'm still learning.
Re: Bog at WOT from nesr idle
Just because it pings at wot doesn't mean it still doesn't need more timing at idle. The bigger the cam the more idle timing it needs. Now when using a stock style distributor that isn't really adjustable is a problem. Buy a weight and spring kit like this,

Then put one light and one med spring in it. Set the timing to 36 at 3500 rpm and you should be in the mid teens for idle timing.
If you idle screw is turned in to far exposing the transfer slots it can cause stumble or hesitation. Do a search on how to set the idle transfer slot correctly and use the holley tuning sticky to tune the carb.

Re: Bog at WOT from nesr idle
Got it running right, went and got AC Delco Plugs R45 and noticed they started to show signs of fouling in a short distance so adjusted fuel pressure down a little and air/fuel mixure a little as well as bump the advance on timing to around 11-12* and she runs great now... Exhaust doesn't kill me anymore walking behind the car and it pulls better then it ever has... Crazy what a little adjustment will do
