RPM stumble upwards, light backfire upon acceleration
Hey guys,
I have been troubleshooting this issue for awhile now. Upon acceleration and more noticeably hard acceleration, my engine stumbles as what seems to be a misfire but the rpms climb 200-300 instead of dropping. It happens very randomly. I did replace my wires, plugs, and distributor cap which solved the symptoms for awhile..but you know how karma comes back 'atcha!
A few things that I should mention to consider being related to the culprit are that my y pipe is dented from hitting a rock in a gravel lot, but not horrible. Maybe this is cause engine to run slightly rich? Also that I had to replace my floats in my carburetor a few months back. I did adjust them to factory specs but could be slightly off cause the bowls to flood ever so slightly which I could see making the plugs fire erratically. I also have no ECU/ECM, so sensors are not to be considered.
I'm really not to sure where to take it from here. Any suggestions would be great.

Not sure at the moment where the timing is set, but I have retarded it a bit from 12* which has helped slightly. Hei distributor with msd cap and rotor.
Re: RPM stumble upwards, light backfire upon acceleration
I had the same issue and has taken me a week to get it right had to clean out the Carb even though it was new and set initial timing around 10* total should be around 36* but I was using 12* and it had a slight hesitantation and now it grabs and goes. So double check timing you may have to get a kit with weights and springs so the curve is what it needs to be for your engine.

I cleaned carb, reset floats, no difference. Changed a plug wire, ran great for a one way trip, has started acting up again. Really present when warmed completely up. I'm stumped and really irritated with all the never ending ignition issues...

Na, they all are looking fresh out of the box. I've been very careful about how I routed them around my headers to prevent this **** from happening again.
