Fuel pump issue

While driving home my car suddenly died and didnt want to start back up. I know its due to fuel pressure because the gauge on my carbs fuel pressure read 0.

I thought the pump had just decided to quit on me but once i got home I was able to jump the green/whitestripe wire on the fuel pump relay and get fuel pressure.

Any ideas? I replaced the fuel pump relay and that didnt work, all the fuses are ok and the one by the battery is intact.

Maybe the oil pressure sensor right above my filter?

Car is a 1988 camaro originally 305 TBI 5 speed and is now a 383Carb 6 speed. Fuel setup is stock TBI pump with a Mallory fuel pressure regulator. Never had any problems before and this was just sudden.

Re: Fuel pump issue

I went and checked to make sure the car has oil pressure, which it does.

I also noticed while the car was on for a little bit the volt gauge was not charging at all. So I tested the back of the alternator with my voltmeter while the car was on and It said it was only putting out .4v Its a brand new one from Autozone because my previous one was putting out 19v.

Although I dont see how that could effect my fuel pump not even wanting to turn on with the key on.

Only you know how you modded it for the carb swap??????

How is the pump relay controlled?
Is the OP switch still operational.?

The OP switch ( if connected ) is backup to the relay so you should have power to the pump even without the relay being in the car.
