V6 Heating up and stalling
V6 Heating up and stalling
I am currently working on my girlfriends 89 camaro with the 2.8 v6. It has had lots of work done to it, but can not get this problem figured out.
When starting cold it takes maybe 5 or so tries before it actually starts to fire and then runs(without gassing the pedal since its a throttle body). Im not sure if this is a problem or signs of something but Im just hoping it doesnt wear out the starter eventually..
After it fires up it runs perfect with steady oil pressure(40-50) for about 10 minutes or so untill it gets up to temperature with the idle around 1000-750 comfortably. When it gets up to temperature it just keeps climbing, and climbs to 230-240 before the fan finally kicks on. But when the fan kicks on the oil pressure will drop significantly and hover (25-20) while the motor stays hot, at this same time the idle has dropped to around 500 and fallls with the oil pressure. This is the moment that it will sputter and potentially stall. I also noticed a significant drop in voltage. After a minute or two the temperature drops and the fan kicks off and it runs fine, But then a minute or two later the cycle will continue as it has heated back up again to that 230-240. Everything appeared to be synchronized on the dash when this all happened.
Any help? Thanks

Re: V6 Heating up and stalling
Coolant level is fine. And it will run at high rpm and jabs at the throttle before it starts acting up, this tells me fuel has to be fine. As well as the fact that the fuel pump was just recently changed.
Also it only seems to act up and stall when the car is in drive but you're foot is on the brake( as if sitting at a stop sign). I don't know if this changes anything. Thank you.

Re: V6 Heating up and stalling
Still consistently losing oil pressure as it heats up and when the oil pressure drops from where it began at 60 to the last peg, the idle starts to sputter and potentially stall, around 500 rpm. Getting fed up with trying to fix it.
