bogging down issues?

So if my gas tank us under half my car bogs down at a stop... it runs fine if I'm driving but if once Im deaccellerating and just about at the point of completely stopping its bigs and dies out.. now if I slow down to the stop very gradually it 99% of the time won't do it but if I slow down quicker at all it bigs and dies... and very occasionally if I try to accelerate quickly it bogs down but doesnt die...

However, if I'm above a half tank of gas the car runs fine... I can stomp the gas slam on the brakes do whatever and it runs great... its getting quite annoying having to fill up every few days.. I feel like I have a lawnmower sized gas tank lmao

It is a91 firebird 305 tbi... maybe 6 months old plugs and wires, roughly two month old parts are: i.a.c., distributor cap and rotor, coolant temp sensor, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pump relay, and thermostat... I believe that's it

Any help is appreciated guys thanks

Re: bogging down issues?

lmao @ lawnmower gas tank

Sounds like the sending unit is gummed up and got stuck. Maybe the float is even bad. Have you checked all the vent and evap lines at least? Might be getting some weird vapor lock, I've seen stranger. I would definitely exhaust all possibilities before dropping the tank, but it sounds like that is in your future

Re: bogging down issues?

If my sending unit was gummed up wouldn't it run like that all of the time? It runs perfectly if I have over half a tank of gas... and how would the float cuz it to run like that? Sorry I'm not exactly an ace mechanic yet lol I've only been seriously working on cars for like a year or two so my amount of questions is vast

Re: bogging down issues?

The cars got a better "1LE" baffled tank someplace in late 90 or 91 sometime.
There is a known issue with the regular non baffled tanks, fuel runs away from the pickup and it will bog/stall.
You prolly only have 4gallons or less in the tank when this is happening.
