My car wont start
I am having trouble trying to figure out what my problem is.
The car is a 89 formula with a 406 small block with long tubes and a mini starter.
Earlier today I put a new stereo in and when I went to start my car it everything turned on inside the car but it wouldn't even attempt to turn over. I have had problems in the past with the starter. I've never had it where the starter wouldn't turn over. Does anyone have any other suggestions on what it could be? or would I be better off trying the starter first?
Thanks!

Re: My car wont start
ESP don't work well on the web ,a lot more info would be helpful
What tests have you one?
Is the battery fully charged? (like checked with a meter )
Do the dash lights come on with the Ign?
Do the headlights work?
Do you get any noise at all when trying to start , clicking , etc ?
Are the battery terminals clean and the cable connections tight? ( both ends )
And they would be ......................?
Did you fix them .........................?

The battery is fully charged, the radio comes on the headlights work everything else works it just wont turn over. The starter doesn't make any noise.
The battery terminal ends are clean and tight on both ends.
Its kind of hard to describe the problems I had before but sometimes it would make a grinding noise, but if I would wait a couple of seconds and try it again and it would always start. We replaced the starter and never had that problem again.
Hopefully this was enough info.
Let me know if you need any more info.
Thanks!

At the starter solenoid , jump the small terminal ( purple wire ) to the big terminal from the battery and see if it cranks.
IF it doesn't then the starter is your problem
If it does , then you need to check the wiring from the Ign switch to the starter
Typical starter circuit.

You don't state in your profile what trans you have ?
You should have a NSS on the shifter with a auto and a safety switch on the clutch pedal with a stick.
Either of those could be faulty cutting power to the starter

Re: My car wont start
While messing with the wires he could have cut/broke connection with the park/neutral safety switch. Just a thought.

Yes the Park Nuetral safety switch wire runs right through that area.

VATS immediately comes to mind. Theres two small-gauge orange wires leaving the steering column down by the ignition switch/harmonica connector. Check them and their small white connector!

Re: My car wont start
true.. but it's more than likely he cut or accidentally yanked on some wire(s) etc.. hopefully he can track down what happened rather easily.. especially if it's his DD.. that feeling is not good.. thank god I have five cars now.. always a spare on hand.. LOL

Speculation ;a waste of bandwidth without the OP's input
in any case ,a thinking person having problems after playing around with something would go back and check their work instead of asking online for people to guess at what "may" be wrong

Only they know what they did or can see under their dash, as I stated 1st up ESP don't work well over the net
