Do I need to change my oil after 1 year?

I've put on 300kms this year. Maybe a tank of gas and now its time to park the car for the winter. I always park the car with fresh oil before it sits.

I'm thinking ahead for the spring. Will I need to change the oil again. For the past 11 years I've been putting about 5000k between changes. I've been told oil has a limited life once the bottle is opened.

Does oil have a life span if there's only a few miles on it?

If you put 300 kms on it, the oil has fuel and water in it so it must be changed. Oil does also go bad just from being frozen, but I would be confident in changing it now and then you will be good for next summer.

Once a year at least if you don't drive it much.

5000k or 1 year. Very low mileage engines should still have the oil replaced on a regular basis. Although it's probably fine to let it run longer, oil that sits can accumulate contaminates such as condensation.

My race car puts on less mileage than you're doing and I still change the oil once a year just for piece of mind.

Thanks again boys!
I'll keep storing the car with fresh oil and drive it the following season. Next season I hope to put on 5000kms.

I would say change it when you are going to get it out for the next year, otherwise that fresh oil sits all winter long and collects moisture. Change it out after sitting so you start the new season with fresh oil, not contaminated oil.

Re: Do I need to change my oil after 1 year?

Let me start this first by saying I'm no oil pro but have done research on this same topic because I have a custom Harley I've been storing for ten years now.

Now from what I've read, old oil becomes slightly acidic because it washes carbon deposits off the cylinder walls....a by product of the combustion process. Now this acidic oil will start to work on bearing and what not over time. So I have always changed my oil before I store my bike and will do the same with my Iroc. Plus, oil is cheap insurance.

Also, don't forget the Stabil.
